Job description

The role:

The position of Analyst on Crisis Group’s Gender Project will play a key role in helping advance and develop the organisation’s work on gender and conflict, in line with our gender strategy. The Analyst will support and conduct gender-sensitive research and analysis, both bespoke research undertaken by the gender team, and research across the organisation’s geographic and thematic programs. The role will consist of primarily desk research on gender and conflict related issues, further developing and implementing our gender-sensitive research methodology, and helping promote our work externally. It is an exciting opportunity for an early career professional looking to build his or her expertise in the field of gender and conflict. For the initial two-year period, this position will involve mainly desk research, potential scope for future field research. 



  • Manage information resources on gender and conflict internally, and maintain Crisis Group’s tracker on gender and conflict to support overall development and grant reporting requirements.
  • Offer expert advice to colleagues on ways to integrate a gender perspective and research methodology during early phases of policy and research development
  • Conduct primarily desk research on Gender, Peace and Security, particularly the different roles and agencies of women in conflict, and draft written materials as appropriate
  • Help promote the gender project by representing the organisation externally, drafting communications materials (including opeds and social media output) and coordinating launch events.
  • Provide support to the Project Director, Gender and other Senior Staff for Crisis Group activities and projects
  • Carry out administrative duties as necessary.


Requirements include:

  • Masters degree in international relations, gender studies, political science, sociology or equivalent through experience.
  • Three to five years professional experience in government, academia, international organisations, NGOs or journalism.
  • Experience in organizing and delivering training, preferably on areas concerning gender-sensitive research or analysis, and/or women, peace and security.
  • Understanding of the key debates around and dimensions of gender-attuned approaches to conflict and conflict prevention, preferably with some field experience in fragile and conflict-affected states.
  • Fluency in English and strong English drafting skills; knowledge of French and/or Spanish and/or Arabic advantageous.
  • Excellent research, writing and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public presentation skills, digital and social media communications skills, and a strong capacity for effective teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and often demanding environment.
