Purpose of the role:

International Crisis Group is looking for a Research Consultant, China to support the Asia Program and specifically our work on China. The relevant contract, preferably starting July 1 2024, will be for an initial period of six-months (with possibility for renewal) to provide support with the tracking of political developments on priority issue areas.  This consultancy is part-time, requiring an estimated time investment of 20 hours per week and will be carried out remotely.


The International Crisis Group is an independent organisation working to prevent wars and shape policies that will build a more peaceful world.


The contract will be for expectations as below:

  • To monitor and compile English and Chinese-language news related to China’s foreign policy and cross-strait relations on a daily basis;
  • To maintain internal trackers on political and military developments related to China’s foreign policy and cross-strait relations;
  • To produce a monthly report on relevant political, military and economic developments related to priority areas;
  • To complete research tasks as requested, related to China’s foreign policy and cross-strait relations.

Job requirements

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of working experience with a master’s degree in political science, international relations, Chinese studies or other relevant discipline; or at least 5 years of working experience with a bachelor’s degree in the above categories;
  • Knowledge of Chinese foreign policy and cross-strait relations;
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin and can produce written products in English.
