Job description

International Crisis Group seeks a creative, highly organised, service-oriented Stewardship and Donor Events Manager. This is a tremendous opportunity to generate and maintain critical support for resolving some of the most deadly and intractable conflicts of our time, and create tailored opportunities for Donors to engage in our work and show them the value and impact of their investment.

As part of our donor relations during the pandemic, the Development team launched a special Film Club series, featuring conversations on award-winning movies that focus on a specific conflict. In this series, we bring together our analysts and the film’s directors or leading actors to discuss both the conflict itself and the film’s portrayal. Our Trustees and supporters join the conversation to hear about the challenges of depicting a real conflict on the big screen, including Academy Award winner Syriana and Academy Award nominee Quo Vadis Aida?. At the International Crisis Group, you will have the creative space to design new donor engagement activities, like the Film Club series, and facilitate unique interactions with high-level donors.

Working closely with a highly experienced Development Team, the Stewardship and Donor Events Manager will help donors see and understand the direct result of their support. You will have exemplary relationship building skills, experience working with senior leadership and Board Members, and the ability to effectively engage various groups and constituencies. You will demonstrate experience in navigating complex organisations, and strong organisational, communication, and writing skills. The ability to project manage new and existing philanthropic initiatives and partnerships is also important, and is an exciting aspect of the role.

You will be responsible for planning and executing a comprehensive stewardship and events strategy to enhance constituent engagement, strengthen involvement, and build the donor community. You will coordinate all aspects of numerous, mission-driven special events and execute both an organisational wide stewardship program from gift acknowledgement and impact reporting to a donor travel program. You will report to the Head of Development Operations and work in close partnership with the Chief Development Officer, Governments & Multilateral Relations team, Foundation Relations team, and Philanthropy team.

  • Help create, implement and evaluate a comprehensive plan and annual calendar for donor and volunteer stewardship, as well as work with frontline fundraisers to devise and support implementation of the stewardship strategy for each donor in their portfolios;

  • Work with institutional leadership, key volunteers, and fundraising staff to design and execute high-impact concierge stewardship experiences for top-level donors.Manage projects such as: gift acknowledgement; Corporate Council benefits program; seasonal solicitation and stewardship campaigns; donor recognition societies and other forms of regular, ongoing recognition;

  • Plan and execute supporter events and other meaningful donor experiences including attendance at Board meetings, and a donor travel program;

  • Work collaboratively to design and coordinate special supporter events, including, but not limited to managing the invitation process, run-of-show, on-line registration, host relations, speaker preparation, correspondence, and coordination of follow-up,including thank you gifts and notes and readouts; oversee the maintenance of accurate event records and data;

  • Support logistics and planning of in-person events, including liaising with hotels, restaurants and vendors and managing the event on the day;

  • Partner with the Communications team and front-line fundraisers to develop high-quality Impact Reports that help donors stay connected with projects they have supported. Continually evaluate these reporting mechanisms with a goal to increase impact while using resources in the most efficient manner;

  • Develop and manage the budget for each event, if applicable;

  • Support the hiring and managing of interns;

  • Lightly support the functioning of the London office (incoming mail, liaise with landlord, maintain others functions that help keep the office running smoothly).

Requirements include:

In addition to event management experience, the Stewardship and Donor Events Manager will be a rigorous, highly productive, and entrepreneurial individual with superb communication skills. You will ideally also possess the following skills and characteristics:

  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and the inclination to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse constituencies;

  • Show capacity for long-term visioning and the ability to create comprehensive plans, taking into account outside factors and the need for flexibility;

  • Confident and clear presentation skills;

  • Strong work ethic and ambition;

  • Well organised, with a proactive approach to managing time-sensitive and competing and fluctuating workloads in order to deliver desired outcomes within allotted time frames, with professionalism and a meticulous attention to detail;

  • Ability to think strategically and creatively, but also demonstrates scrupulous attention to details;

  • Strong technical skills with a high level of proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office applications; proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop in particular) would be a definite asset;

  • Basic understanding of Social Media and mass-email tools (e.g. Mailchimp) would be an advantage;

  • Some travel, and occasional work on nights and weekends will be required twice a year.
