The International Crisis Group is seeking a Research and Data Volunteer Intern to assist its Development Operations (DevOps) team for a period of three to six months starting in April or May. Reporting to the Development Coordinator, the DevOps Volunteer Intern will conduct prospect research, help maintain our donor database, prepare briefing notes for Crisis Group senior staff’s high-level donor meetings and attend report launch calls. The position offers an exciting opportunity to discover how an international non-governmental organisation approaches and cultivates relationships with individual and institutional donors.
Based in Crisis Group’s New York, London, and Brussels offices, the Development team executes its work through mapping prospective donors, cultivating and building relationships with prospects and long-standing donors alike, and developing proposals and reports for a variety of individual and institutional donors. The successful candidate will learn how to identify and link institutional thematic priorities with Crisis Group activities.
Responsibilities:
Conducting research on new and current prospects to support fundraisers in their cultivation process;
Preparing briefing notes on individuals or foundation contacts to prepare senior staff for high-level donor meetings;
Attending report launch calls and listening to our advocacy and communications strategies to determine if there are relevant upcoming events for our donors;
Maintaining and improving the team’s databases and internal tracking systems, helping to ensure the team is in compliance with donor obligations and reporting deadlines;
Assisting the entire Development team on as needed basis with special projects and unique research requests;
Collaborating with the team to effectively monitor the organisation’s work, both for donor reporting purposes and to assess the organisation’s progress toward achieving its goals;
Writing development materials and publications, such as end of year appeals, event invitations and impact reports; and,
Assisting with the logistics and coordination for donor and prospect events;
Providing general administrative support as requested.
Qualifications include:
Currently pursuing, or recently completed, an undergraduate or graduate degree in international affairs, journalism, public administration, nonprofit management, or a similar field;
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills;
Proven excellent writing skills;
Experience maintaining organisational systems;
Keen to take initiative and collaborate in a team environment;
Proficiency in Google Suite products (Drive, Docs, Sheets and Forms) and Zoom;
Knowledge of international affairs, conflict prevention, management, and resolution issues, and Crisis Group’s body of work a plus;
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge a plus; and,
Authorisation to work in the United States or the United Kingdom.
