Job description

Crisis Group is offering a great learning opportunity to work closely with a small, ambitious team to support fundraising efforts from the world’s leading foundation donors (see our current donors here).  In this volunteer internship, you will discover how an organisation researches, approaches, cultivates and stewards relationships with foundations.  This is a volunteer position for 3 to 6 months with a mutually agreed upon start date around 1 April 2024.

We offer you learning on the job through:

  • Conducting and presenting research on foundations that could award grants to nonprofits in the peace and security sector;

  • Assisting in the development of grant reports and briefing documents for donor meetings;

  • Supporting overall administrative tasks related to day-to-day grant management. This can include maintaining and enhancing donor filing systems, reviewing donor materials and/or taking notes;

  • Monitoring philanthropic trends to ensure that the Team’s outreach and engagement with foundations is timely and strategic;

  • Attending philanthropy-focused webinars and seminars for internal learning purposes;

  • Providing administrative and logistical support for external events as needed;

This volunteer position will suit anyone interested in gaining broader insight into developments in the philanthropic landscape and learning how to link institutional thematic priorities with Crisis Group’s activities.

Job requirements

Qualifications include:

  • Currently pursuing, or recently completed, an undergraduate or graduate degree.

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.

  • Well organized, communicative and interpersonal.

  • A can do attitude and keen to take initiative.

  • Attention to detail, ability to work independently and adherence to tight deadlines.

  • Collegial and collaborative.

  • Authorization to work in the U.S.

Our Foundations team is based in New York City, but we are open to considering remote candidates.
