Job description
Crisis Group is offering a great learning opportunity to develop concise writing skills, and seeing first hand how a policy organisation develops and maintains its media relations and promotes its work through its podcasts Hold Your Fire!, War & Peace, The Horn, Afrique 360° and Ripple Effect. In this volunteer internship you will also be observing, contributing and providing feedback to our processes as a member of the communications team. This is a full time unpaid volunteer position for 3-6 months, starting as soon as possible.
We offer you learning on the job through:
Suggesting, reaching out to and preparing candidate podcast guests, supporting podcast hosts with the recording process;
Preparing background research and runs-of-show for hosts of upcoming podcast episodes;
Liaising with podcast editors and communications team for smooth and timely publication;
Writing summaries of episodes to accompany publication;
Crafting social media posts and liaising with the video team to create audiovisual material to publicise episodes;
Monitoring the impact of podcasts and providing feedback to hosts;
Assisting with uploading Crisis Group’s written publications.
Assisting with drafting our weekly newsletter
Contribute to expanding and maintaining Crisis Group’s main media contact list database;
Monitor media coverage of Crisis Group and its staff and assist in the production of impact metrics.
Job requirements
This volunteer position will suit anyone interested in acquiring a practical overview of a wide range of countries in conflict, developing concise writing skills, and learning how a policy organisation develops its communications strategies. Candidates will need very good English, good writing skills and to enjoy working in a fast-paced, diverse, multinational team. The ideal intern will have prior communications experience and will already be familiar with the production of podcasts in a professional setting.
Our communications team is based in Brussels, so the candidate must have work authorization for Belgium. This position requires working from the office, but there is flexibility in office attendance.
