Volunteer Intern, Turkey Project

Job description

The Europe and Central Asia Program’s Turkey Project is seeking an intern for ideally six months (less can also be considered) starting end of May/early June 2021. The internship would suit a candidate with a recent degree in political science, conflict studies or international relations, planning to pursue a career related to Turkish domestic and foreign policy, and preferably with a particular interest in internal security matters and/or the Cyprus question.

The intern will work closely with the Turkey Director and Analyst fulfilling the following tasks.


  • Research particularly on the Cyprus question, and more broadly Turkish domestic and foreign policy;
  • Review of Turkish and international press;
  • Provide assistance in reporting/drafting on conflicts followed by the Istanbul field office;
  • Assist in the preparation of advocacy materials, including conference presentations, and attending public events/conferences/research meetings with program staff in Istanbul (as much as Covid-19 restrictions allow/remote arrangements can be considered);
  • Provide administrative support as required.


Qualifications include:

  • Degree in political science, conflict studies, international relations or similar;
  • Excellent verbal and written command of English and Turkish (native Turkish preferred);
  • Knowledge of and interest in Turkish domestic and foreign policy;
  • Experience within EU institution and/or an international environment/NGO desirable.
